In the Spring of 2013, we embark on a new journey. Join us March 28 – April 27, 2013 as the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts - a Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts Production - returns and asks “If you had a time machine…” Would you explore events that changed our world? See moments where new ideas were born? Visit places where history was forever altered. Or blaze a trail into the future unknown?

As imagined through the arts, PIFA 2013 will ask all of this and more. A journey through time and space, through the past and future. PIFA 2013 will celebrate diversity, re-ignite a city’s artistic passion, encourage risk-taking and impact Philadelphia in a way that will not be soon forgotten.

Join us tonight in the Merck Gallery as we discuss this very topic: Music is the Healing Force of the Universe.

It is long acknowledged that music can provide therapeutic support for various maladies. This discussion shares some of the research data, and personal insights that could offer help and greater understanding to the average listener.

Panelists include:

• Dr. Cynthia Folio, music therapist and composer of a multi-media work that uses her daughter’s voice-overs to explore the interior of an epileptic seizure. 
• Dr. Andi McGraw Hunt, Assistant Director Interdisciplinary Arts and Quality of Life Research Center at Temple University. 
• Alfie Pollitt, Philly R&B legend and jazz pianist, longtime student of music for healing and meditation. 
• Dr. Wendy Magee, Music Therapist at Temple University.
